The Problem with All Governments

The Issue and its Facts

Americans are infatuated with government. But, why do the governments always mess things up? The news of late is all about the failures of our government: the IRS abuses, the Post Office, the Veteran’s hospitals, the public schools, Benghazi, Solyndra, Fast and Furious (Guns to the Mexican drug cartels)…the list goes on.

The worst atrocities in the history of mankind (genocide, wars of aggression, oppression, torcher…) have their origins in governments. The Founding Fathers were wise to fear governments of any kind. Our government leaders are mostly ordinary men given great powers over us. Just in the last century we have witnessed: Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union, Mao’s China, and much more.

Are Americans naive? Why do we trust our government and distrust large corporations? None of us are angels. Are we being manipulated?

Commercial businesses are largely self-correcting – poorly run businesses go bankrupt; they simply cease to exist. Not so with governments – they are seldom self-correcting (consider the Post Office or the Public Schools…and soon healthcare). The G+U+M+S (Governments+Unions+Monopolies+Special Interests) seldom deliver the goods on time and on budget; yet they continue to thrive and grow.

For the last 100 years of American history, our businesses (America’s Golden Geese) have been demonized and governments sanctified. Why? Are we “drinking the kool-aid?”

Thinking Conventionally

We can fix the world. Power is everything. The power of the Federal Government utterly dwarfs the largest corporation in America (Wal-Mart $473b revenues v. Fed. Gov. $3,001b = 6.3x larger). https://www.usgovernmentrevenue.com/revenue_history

Demagoguery works. “Free Stuff” buys votes. Unions are our best constituents. Special interests support us for reelection. Wall Street loves us. Government is good. Demonize our opponents. Read Rules for Radicals.

Thinking Better

Governments are the overhead cost of society. In 1900 all U.S. governments (Federal, state and local…) constituted 7% of our GDP. Today these governments constitute 40% of GDP. It takes four commercial sector employees to pay the salary of one government employee. And, government employees are paid 50% more than ordinary citizens.

Furthermore, there are now 80,000 pages of Federal Regulations restricting our freedoms and telling us how we must live. We are choking our nation to death with government.

“The government that governs least, governs best”

Free Markets are our golden geese. They alone can make more pies. Free Markets gave us: Apple and Google and Facebook and Twitter and UPS and lots of other startups and innovations.[/fusion_text][/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container][fusion_builder_container backgroundcolor=”” backgroundimage=”” backgroundrepeat=”no-repeat” backgroundposition=”left top” backgroundattachment=”scroll” video_webm=”” video_mp4=”” video_ogv=”” video_preview_image=”” overlay_color=”” overlay_opacity=”0.5″ video_mute=”yes” video_loop=”yes” fade=”no” bordersize=”0px” bordercolor=”” borderstyle=”solid” paddingtop=”18px” paddingbottom=”9px” paddingleft=”0px” paddingright=”0px” menu_anchor=”” equal_height_columns=”no” hundred_percent=”no” class=”cta-question” id=””][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”][fusion_text]
